A Healthier Future for South Asians, Everywhere ?
Our Vision
To empower the global South Asian community to live longer, healthier lives by preventing and managing lifestyle diseases, and to create a world where equitable access to nutrition and health is a reality for all—regardless of geography or socioeconomic status.
Our Mission
At SA Wellness, our mission is to transform the lives of South Asians worldwide by delivering Smart Nutrition. We aim to reduce the burden of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity by offering personalized, non-preachy support that works in real life, not just on paper —Together, we’re building a world where South Asians don’t just survive, but thrive.
Why SA Wellness Was Born
SA Wellness was born out of personal pain—and a deep desire to prevent it in others.
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed a wave of sudden and devastating losses across the South Asian community—young fathers dying of heart attacks, mothers suffering silent strokes, families torn apart in the blink of an eye. These weren’t rare cases. They were everywhere. And they felt painfully familiar.
I lost my father to heart disease in his early 50s. My husband lost his father to a stroke at just 43. Then in 2023, my own husband suffered a stroke. Thankfully, it wasn’t fatal—but it shook us. It made me realize that this wasn’t just a pattern. It was a crisis.
As a South Asian, as a nutritionist with an expertise in public health and global health, and also as a woman who has lived this reality, I knew I couldn’t look away anymore. The evidence was clear: South Asians are uniquely vulnerable to hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and their deadly consequences. But the good news? These silent killers can often be prevented—or managed—through something as powerful and accessible as good nutrition and a healthier lifestyle.
That’s why I started SA Wellness—a socially driven, online nutrition and lifestyle clinic dedicated to serving South Asians around the world. Backed by science and guided by empathy, we help individuals take control of their health before it’s too late.
Our work goes beyond digital borders. In India, we run community nutrition programs in rural Bengal and a food security initiative in a Kolkata slum—because prevention shouldn’t be a privilege.
SA Wellness exists because we’ve seen the worst—and believe in the best that’s still possible.
This is personal. This is purposeful. This is our story.
Meet the Founder
Hena Nafis is a clinical and public health nutritionist dedicated to addressing the high burden of cardiovascular diseases—especially obesity, hypertension and diabetes—among South Asians in India and the diaspora. A Harvard graduate with an MPH degree majoring in Nutrition and Global Health, she has earned her degrees across three continents—in the UK, Australia, and the US—combining world-class academic training with rich lived experiences as an avid traveler. This unique global perspective equips her with deep cultural insight and practical knowledge to effectively guide and support diverse South Asian diaspora communities.
As the founder of Nutrience, a pioneering nutrition and lifestyle clinic in Kolkata that has served over 30,000 clients globally, Hena’s approach is both evidence-based and culturally attuned. She has been a nutrition columnist for The Telegraph, Kolkata, since 2008, sharing her expertise with a wide audience. Her work also spans social entrepreneurship, health journalism, and public education, earning her recognition from the Women Economic Forum and CNN-IBN.
This blend of global education, cross-cultural expertise, and community focus is the compelling reason to trust SA Wellness for your nutrition and lifestyle needs.
SA Wellness is an online nutrition and lifestyle clinic dedicated to improving the health and life span of the global South Asian diaspora, through Smart Nutrition. Our mission is rooted in the understanding that South Asians are disproportionately affected by lifestyle-related conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity—silent killers that significantly increase the risk of premature death and heart disease.
We believe in prevention, personalization, and cultural sensitivity. Our team of qualified experts provides evidence-based dietary and lifestyle guidance tailored specifically for South Asian genetics, diets, and cultural habits. Whether you’re living in North America, the UK, the Middle East, or anywhere else in the world, SA Wellness is your partner in long-term, sustainable health.
We proudly serve the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Nepalese diaspora communities across the globe. Our team includes dietitians from each of these communities, ensuring that your cultural preferences, food traditions,
and lived experiences are deeply understood and reflected in your care plan.
But our work doesn’t stop at the individual level. SA Wellness is a socially motivated organization. We are actively involved in public health efforts in India, including:
- Nutrition awareness and dietary therapy in rural Bengal, helping communities understand and combat chronic diseases through better food choices.
- The Milk and Fruit Program in a Kolkata slum, which provides school-going children with daily access to milk and fruit—laying the foundation for better nutrition and academic potential.
Through our global services and grassroots programs, we are bridging the gap in healthcare access and empowering communities to take charge of their health.
What is Smart Nutrition?
Smart Nutrition is our flexible, culturally mindful approach that empowers you to:
- Include your favorite foods—yes, even the ones considered “unhealthy”
- Build better habits without giving up your culture
- Make practical choices that are good enough and sustainable
- Work with a coach who listens, adapts, and helps you stay on track—without shame
We focus on small, smart shifts that create big results—whether it’s lowering your BP, improving blood sugar, or just feeling in control again.
Because the perfect plan doesn’t exist. But the right one for you does.
So what is Smart Nutrition for South Asians?
Forget rigid rules. Forget unrealistic diets.
At SA Wellness, we don’t preach. We partner.
We understand that most people already know what’s “healthy”—but life isn’t always lived in perfect conditions. Strict, dogmatic programs often fail because they don’t fit you. That’s where Smart Nutrition comes in.
